the non-valentine's day nails.

last night i had the brilliant idea to create some "valentine's day nails". i sketched out a few designs which included hearts, glitter, and the like -- only to come to the realization that i'm the most anti-mushy/gushy hallmark holiday person i know. not that there's anything wrong with celebrating valentine's day, but i've just never gotten into the hype! honestly, i think love is truly beautiful when communicated in the unplanned/unexpected moments. okay, i'll hop off my soap box before i get on a roll... :)

so here's my non-traditional valentine's day nail art. "OPI on collin's ave" + "baby it's coal outside"... with a very blair-esque geometric flare! for these rectangle nails i painted the red center first and then then the black overtop to create the geometric definition! have fun lovers!

DIY metal hair ring.

i first came across metal hair bands (or metal hair rings) on pinterest. i was instantly obsessed and began searching online for a place to purchase them... but with no luck! :( they were originally spotted on the runway at dries van noten fw2011 and h&m was (or is) carrying a similar metal hair accessory. 

but with the nearest h&m being 3 hours away, i made due by hitting up my local hardware store! genius. only $1.78 per piece too! to secure the ring, wrap hair with a thick ponytail holder (or several) to fill the opening, backcomb your ends and ta-da! a minimalist metal hair band.

you are witnessing a first. right here, right now. being creative with my cropped sweater, this is a new concept for me in laying a longer tee underneath. i know, it's earth-shattering! heh. but for us tall gals (5'10" here) this could potentially be a fashion lifesaver! 

the weather has been indecisive this month. blizzards, thunderstorms, fog, sunshine. my hunch is that michigan weather is suffering from multiple personality disorder... which is totally fine with me! it means more outfit options! woot woot!

however, if you haven't noticed (you know, with fashion blogging and whatnot) i'm quite aesthetically opinionated/inspired. lately i've taken to creating designs based upon my backpacking trip through europe two summers ago. this particular photo was taken in grindelwald, switzerland.

i confess: i raided the husband's closet this morning. this gray h&m hoodie of his caught my eye with the asymmetrical + wrist zippers. i know i'm biased but for a guy who adores his hoodies, he does have killer "hoodie style" - love you babe!

color block nails.

omg, color blocking is everywhere! since i love it and it's become impossible to ignore -- i've incorporated it into my nail art for today!


essie "mint candy apple"/"nice is nice"/"tart deco"


directions:
paint base polish on 1/3 of the nail. the with the second polish paint horizontally at the 1/3 mark to create a defined line. continue to paint to the 2/3 mark. the with the third color paint horizontally at the 2/3 mark and continue to the tip. 


allow colors to sit for about 5 minutes then apply a top coat... and ta-da... color block nails!

the "snow-frolicking" photos have begun! now that winter has "officially" decided to begin, i'm in desperate need of new snow boots. any suggestions?? think "stylish, yet practical"... heh.

happy 2012 lovely readers! i hope you all made many great memories in the last hours of 2011. personally, 2011 was a year of exceptional joy & momentous milestones [i.e. completing grad school & marrying my best friend]. i feel incredibly blessed [and extremely humbled]!

now onto 2012...

other resolutions aside, my main goal for the new year is to be about quality not quantity. quality in relationships, personal endeavours, creative outlets, career, etc.
