artprize fancy pants


today is the calm before the storm. tomorrow marks the beginning of artprize, the world's largest open art competition, happening just outside my door in downtown grand rapids.

 now think "zoo", and you've got an accurate description of what the city will be like for the next 3+ weeks. don't get me wrong, i love meandering through the streets, "ooing" and "ahhing" over the beautiful, bizarre and brilliant pieces of artwork. but for you grand rapidians [or west michiganders], who want to enjoy the exhibits in peace, the trick is to come downtown late at night or in the middle of a work day. trust me, I KNOW. hmm... i might even hop on my bike for an early bird preview today! 


 although artprize was moderately scoffed at by GQ magazine earlier this month [it's a thought-provoking read nonetheless], i do consider myself fortunate to be living in a city that celebrates all forms of art. there are even fashion and music competitions happening in the upcoming weeks! for a brief moment i thought about tickling the ivories in one of the music comps, but nah, i'll observe and critique from afar... :)

  5. Can you play the piano? That's awesome if you do! I love piano music. It's very soothing. Okay, so first, I have to tell you what just happened. I pull up your blog and my son sees your first photo and say, "It's a mama!" And I laugh and say, "No, Blair is a girl, not a mama yet." And then I start scrolling down to read and he says, "Oooo...she nice shoes". And I laughed again and said, "Yes, she does have nice shoes." Then he said, "she pretty". And I said, "Yes, she is very pretty". So not only am I a fan, but I guess my son Orion is too. :) Love those jeans. UO makes the best jeans! <3

    1. I'm laughing aloud at Orion's comments! Well, I'm definitely one of his fans too. He's so precious!! And not a momma (yet). I'm still working on the whole "being the domesticated wife" bit. LOL! And "yes" to playing the piano. Momma Badge had me in lessons at age 4... Overachievers over here! ;)
